Wilberforce & Co. was founded on 1 September 2025,  the first page of a long story.
A beginning inspired by heritage, craft and the quiet resolve to create something modern and lasting.
From the outset, the vision has stayed deliberately simple: to make timeless, thoughtfully constructed clothing that carries quality with an understated confidence.

Every pair of jeans is handcrafted in England, stitch by stitch, using natural fibres sourced from one of the oldest mills in France, a place whose looms have whispered since the days of early industry. This interplay of historic craftsmanship and contemporary design gives each garment its own presence: character without noise, durability without compromise.

Inspired by New England charm, Scandinavian clarity and the elegance of early 20th-century fashion, Wilberforce & Co. works in limited editions, produced in small batches. The pace is intentional. It reduces waste, raises standards and ensures every piece carries its own individuality.

Chapter One began last summer, in Valbonne.
Down sun-soaked lanes and terracotta squares, I found a fabric that felt alive, light, textured, somehow holding the mood of the place. It lingered in my mind. Weeks later, back in the factory, I discovered its echo: a denim sample tucked away, waiting for a purpose.
I cut it, shaped it, stitched it into a pair of jeans. From the first wear, people noticed. Friends, strangers, anyone who glimpsed them wanted to know more. A quiet experiment grew into something that refused to stay small.

Thus Chapter One took form: a straight-cut, mid-rise jean informed by the confident tailoring of the 1920s yet shaped for today. A design that feels modern but carries the soft rhythm of a slower, more elegant era.

Rooted in the charm of Nantucket, the coastal ease of St Mawes and that moment in Valbonne, Chapter One is both an opening line and a promise.
