Behind -1925-
Wilberforce & Co. was founded on 1st September 2025, the beginning of a journey and the reason behind the name “1925.” It represents both heritage and new beginnings: a respect for the past while shaping something modern and lasting. From the outset, the vision has been simple yet powerful: to create timeless, thoughtfully made clothing that blends quality with quiet confidence.
Every pair of jeans is handcrafted in England, stitch by stitch, using natural fibres sourced from one of the oldest mills in France, with roots stretching back to the Industrial Revolution. This combination of historic craftsmanship and modern design gives each garment both character and durability.
Inspired by New England charm, Scandinavian simplicity and the elegance of early 20th-century fashion, Wilberforce & Co. creates limited-edition collections in small batches. This approach reduces waste, ensures every garment is made with care and gives each piece a sense of individuality.
The story unfolds in chapters, each one marking a step forward.
Chapter One begins last summer, in Valbonne. Among its narrow streets and sun-soaked squares, I came across a fabric that caught my attention, light yet full of character, the kind of cloth that seemed to carry the essence of the place itself. It stayed with me, and weeks later, back in the factory, I found its echo: a denim sample tucked away, waiting to be made into something new.
I cut and stitched it into a pair of jeans, and from the first wear, people began to notice. The response was immediate, friends, strangers, anyone who saw them wanted to know more. What began as one experiment quickly grew into an idea too strong to ignore.
So the first chapter was set: a straight cut, mid-rise jean, with a silhouette informed by the confident tailoring of the 1920s but shaped for today. A design that is modern, yet quietly recalls a bygone lifestyle of ease and refinement.
Inspired by the charm of Nantucket, the coastal elegance of St Mawes and that moment in Valbonne, Chapter One is both a beginning and a promise. Every pair is made in England, in small batches, from natural fibres. Each one carries the same spirit as that first discovery: timeless, individual and built to last.
